Originally settled by migrants in the early 1800s, Homewood is a southeastern community located in Jefferson County, Alabama. With close proximity to I-65, Homewood is an ideal location for both visitors and commuters. Over the course of the 20th century, the city of Homewood has been constantly marked by highs and lows such as an outbreak of polio during World War II and the boom in steel thereafter.

Homewood is located at 33°28′6″ North and 86°48′29″ West (33.468306, -86.808146). Homewood is located on the southeastern side of Birmingham, in close vicinity to Montgomery Parkway. The community lies in the middle of I-65 and Montgomery Parkway, making it a perfect destination for commuters in the state of Alabama.

 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Homewood has a total area of 8.41 sq mi (21.77 km2), of which 8.34 sq mi (21.60 km2) is land and 0.07 sq mi (0.17 km2)

is water.
