Mountain Brook is located at 33°29′13” North and 86°44′26” West (33.486972, −86.740465). It is in close proximity to Highways 459 and the U.S. Highway 280, which rests adjacent from the southern border of the community. Mountain Brook is also near Montgomery Parkway, a small highway that leads to downtown Birmingham.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Mountain Brook has a total area of 12.84 sq mi (33.27 km2), of which 12.82 sq mi (33.22 km2) is land and 0.02 sq mi (0.05 km2) is water.
